These instructions will review the steps needed when using the Microsoft Dictation in Evolv
Important Notes:
- Please read all steps thoroughly before proceeding.
- Dictation lets you use speech-to-text to author content in Microsoft 365 with a microphone and reliable internet connection. It's a quick and easy way to get your thoughts out, create drafts or outlines, and capture notes.
- Dictation is only allowed in text boxes within Evolv
- Internet connectivity is required
- Only versions of Windows 11 and above support usage of this feature. The feature isn't available if you're running an older version of Windows,
- An active Microsoft 365 subscription is required to use this feature. Please verify you're signed in with an active subscription.
- Submit a Helpdesk ticket if you plan on using Speech to Text and your computer does not support it.
- Minimize background noise when using Speech to Text
- Always proofread your text before saving
Instructions:
- Open Evolv form
- Click in the box where text will be added
- With your cursor in the text box, press the
Windows logo key + H
keyboard shortcut to launch the Voice Typing tool on the screen- It is a little pop-up box you can move anywhere. If it’s obstructing your screen view, just click and hold the bar at the top to drag and move it around the screen.
- When Voice Typing for the first time on Windows 11, you’d have to turn on auto-punctuation. Go to the Voice to Typing pop-up, and click the ‘Settings’ (gear) icon within the box.
- A menu will pop up. Turn on the toggle switch next to ‘Auto-punctuation’.
- click the ‘Microphone’ icon to start dictating
- To stop or pause dictation, either press the ‘Microphone’ icon or press Windows + H keys again or just say, “Stop Dictation”.
- To close the Voice Typing tool, either press the ‘Esc key or click on the ‘Close’ button on the tool’s pop-up.
- If you’re using a tablet or a touchscreen, tap the microphone button on the touch keyboard to start dictating. Tap it again to stop dictation, or say "Stop dictation."
- You can also enable the Voice typing launcher to automatically appear anytime you click inside a text field. If you plan to dictate often, you will find this very helpful to have the tool open and ready for dictating.

Dictation commands
Use dictation commands to tell you PC what to do, like “delete that” or “select the previous word.”
The following table tells you what you can say. If a word or phrase is in bold , it's an example. Replace it with similar words to get the result you want.

Dictating letters, numbers, punctuation, and symbols
You can dictate most numbers and punctuation by saying the number or punctuation character. To dictate letters and symbols, say "start spelling." Then say the symbol or letter, or use the ICAO phonetic alphabet.
To dictate an uppercase letter, say “uppercase” before the letter. For example, “uppercase A” or “uppercase alpha.” When you’re done, say “stop spelling.”
