This article will review how to utilize OC eMAR when administering medications
Important Notes:
- Please read through all important information before continuing with this article
Instructions:
Access a client’s order connect as previously done.
In the bottom right hand corner click the eMAR tab.
If prompted, enter client’s admission date & click on admit.
Next choose “log onto eMAR” or “go to client’s eMAR”.
· Choose log onto eMAR for med pass which will bring up all clients meds.
· Choose go to client’s eMAR for documentation of only that clients meds.
The system will alert you if there are new orders to review.
Manage Orders:
· Box with client’s med list will pop up.
· If medication has a yellow highlighted area beneath it, this means that it’s a new order that must be reviewed prior to medication administration.
· Click on the med, NOT ON THE YELLOW HIGHLIGHT.
· Once you review the med order for accuracy and make any necessary changes, you may then click the yellow highlight.
· You can make changes to: time of administration, quantity/dose, alert text, sig, max dose, and parameters.
· Enter parameters after clicking on the “heart” icon, choosing type and parameter values.
· Any changes you make will have a green arrow next to each change. ***Only make one change at a time, click the green
arrow to save any changes. If you make more than one change, the first green arrow you click will save that change. The remainder of the green arrows will disappear and further changes will not be saved***.
· Repeat sequence for each new med.
Administration of meds:
· Check meds for this pass, box will appear with choice of med pass time.
· Clients’ pictures will populate the screen. One by one click on each client to determine if that client has meds scheduled for this med pass time.
· Choose each med to be administered by clicking in the small box to the left of the medication. You may click as many boxes at the same time corresponding to all the meds you are administering on this pass.
· At the bottom of the right hand column a box will appear with 3 green arrows indicating that you have administered. Click that box to document those meds have been administered. ***If parameters are ordered (and entered appropriately earlier), enter the values as instructed. If values fall within parameters click the “submit” button. If values fall outside the parameters the system will not let you document as administered***
· In the case where meds are not administered for any reason, refusals, values outside the parameters, holds, etc, do not click the small box to the left of the med. Instead click on the medication name, medication info will display. Towards the bottom there is a dropdown box labelled “special cases”, click on that and choose from the dropdown box the reason why med was
not given. If you choose other or feel you need to make further comment, free text in the comments box and click submit.
Finally:
· At 2pm & 11pm each day print a downtime report by clicking on the 3 bars located at the top right of the page. Choose reports, then choose administration of orders, then choose MAR. Box will pop up to choose client or select all. Easier to choose all, click view, open document (located at bottom of screen). A box will pop up, click “allow” and this will open and display the MAR.
